Strap in for a Smashing Final!
When the men in Green & White set sail on this fall season, the goal was to win the Rocky Mountain Rugby Union. After ten grueling weeks, the team is on the precipice of achieving this goal. Once final match against the Park City Haggis stands in our path. And it will be the most challenging match of the fall season. Park City hosts on familiar turf, and will be sure to bring forth their best squad in an attempt to reign supreme in the RMR. It will surely be a bone crunching affair, and each team will leave their guts on the field in an effort to win.
Brace for Impact!
In their first meeting, the Barbos fell to Park City on the road 33-26. The two losing bonus points proved important later on, but the inability to win on the road in Utah continues to be problematic. Two weeks later in Denver, the men in Green & White eeked out the Haggis by a score of 41-40. It was a high scoring affair, and the first match for fly half Luke Neely. Since the addition of Neely, the offense has an extra touch of potency given his ability to accurately kick for territory. But it’s the defense who the Barbos will rely on in this final. There has only been one match (the opener against the Waterdogs) where the Barbos have given up 20 points or less. If they want to hoist the hardware come Saturday, the defensive alignment and intensity must show up strong for a full 80 minutes.
So who will show up on Saturday? Will it be the Barbo teams of the past that haven’t had the gas or will power to close out a game on the road in Utah? Or will it be the scrappy side that won their final match against the reigning champs Aspen in a win or go home environment? Stay tuned for live updates throughout Saturday’s RMR Championship affair, and be sure to back the boys and help us succeed!
The Barbo vs. Park City Rivalry is SMOKING HOT!
